Mapping America's Ideological Mood

I was hoping to blog about Patrick Ruffini’s excellent analysis of the Ron Paul movement as divined from campaign finance data, but Matt Continetti beat me to the punch.

I’ll say this, briefly: as Caldwell noted in his essay, the Paul campaign is drawing on very old populist currents. And though I think the white nationalist embrace of Paul is not all that interesting or important, it’s interesting to contemplate what the next populist upsurge will look like as the demographic composition of the US population changes. If Paul is the candidate of “anti-globalist” white men from the Old West, who will be the candidate of newly-empowered second-generation Mexican Americans in 20 or 30 years? What will her platform look like?
