Gerson's Therapeutic Heroism: Practical Morality in the Tutelary State
I’ve been going back and forth with the good Joe Knippenberg on the endlessly diverting subject of Michael Gerson. Last night, at a rad party honoring the rad Chris Hayes, I made some kind of pledge to close ranks against Gersonism. Indeed, an extra effort is in order because Gerson represents a vast spirit that I want not to be ascendant in America. But also because I think that that spirit is already utterly ascendant — for the pragmatic reason that it’s really very attractive and can offer a lot of benefits of the sort that people today are really inspired by. I bemoan this and want to stop it.
So I have issued this opening rallying cry at Postmodern Conservative: Down with Gersonism! Down with Therapeutic Politics!
