Huh?
The current edition of The Economist has a very detailed review of a survey on the attitudinal similarities and differences between the US and British publics. One sentence stuck out at me.
The results for the question “Do you favour the death penalty for murder?” were almost identical for both countries, and were approximately as follows:
Yes, always: 25%
Sometimes: 50%
No, it is wrong: 25%
Here is how the magazine described this result:
They feel much the same about the death penalty: they are broadly against it.

I guess even The Economist has Vizzini moments.

I thought the exact same thing when I read that segment. To be fair the rest of the article is pretty interesting, even if none of it is really news.
