An Imagine That Will Haunt Me for Life
Just try to imagine Mister Rogers playing the agent Ari in “Entourage” and it all falls into place.
This strikes me as a pretty good characterization of the Obama gestalt, and it reminds me of the scoop of the year.
JG: You’ve talked about the role of Jews in the development of your thinking
BO: I always joke that my intellectual formation was through Jewish scholars and writers, even though I didn’t know it at the time. Whether it was theologians or Philip Roth who helped shape my sensibility, or some of the more popular writers like Leon Uris.
This is an answer that is simultaneously shrewdly political, wryly funny, and self-effacing. It is dog-whistle politics for nerds. I love it! Yet one wonders if Fast Eddie Obama was at work: I mean, Leon Uris? Political disagreements aside, there is a basic level at which I find Obama impossible to dislike. This will embarrass me at some point in the (near) future.
“Just try to imagine Mister Rogers playing the agent Ari in “Entourage” and it all falls into place.”
This is nothing but the current conservative attack line. Fast Eddy is one block down from Steve Sailer’s favorite: race hustler. Even if you like the characterization, I need to remind you about how the human brain works. You tell somebody something enough then they start to believe it. You are human, if I am not mistaken, even if your singing might suggestt otherwise.

I want to say this about public financed elections. I am all for elections soley financed by tax dollers. As it is, our public finance system is more like corporate welfare. We get nothing for it. It alleviates none of the ills of the money and politics sytem. We still get swift boat BS. We still get lobbiests. We still have the huge amount of time spent fundraising. We still have an uneven playing field in terms of who gets backed by the parties. We still have millionaires buying their elections. We still have campaigns conducted by advertising agencies with ads aimed at stirring up the most ignorant amoung us. So I agree with Obama. The system is broke, or actually never worked. If the public’smillions changes nothing about the system, if a candidate can opt out and still run exactly the same campaign, then what is public financing for?

I guess everyone’s taking Brooks’ piece as a criuticism. Mister Rogers as Ari the agent sounds awesome to me. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
