Hiatt Knows Hollywood

When it comes to enlightening opinions and ideas about contemporary cinema, there’s one place I know I can count on: The Washington Post’s editorial page. Last May, the page helpfully explained that Indiana Jones was — and I still find this shocking — all made up (real archaeologists don’t even wear hats, did you know that?!!) Now it’s explaining to us that movies which make fun of Hollywood people (I think they’re called “actors”) for trying to get themselves awards by playing mentally impaired people aren’t funny, but instead, are super mean! The author of the column is so totally sure of this, in fact, that he wrote it without even having seen the movie. Talk about trustworthy! That, folks, is the kind of seriousness, authority, and confidence I’ve come to expect and trust from the Post’s op-ed page.
