Strategy and Identity

I had the great pleasure of meeting a large group of tremendously impressive people earlier today, many of them military officers and many of them scholars, to talk about how America’s changing self-perceptions will shape its role as a strategic actor. It was a pretty intimidating audience, and my talk was more than a little disjoint. This will come as a surprise to exactly no one. But we had some really wonderful back and forth. The talk has really inspired me to write more on the subject — I keep thinking of other things I wish we could’ve talked about, like Ukraine. And I really wish I could’ve stuck around for the seminar.
