That reminded me that I wanted to find a YouTube clip of the original Senator Foghorn — not Foghorn Leghorn, but the original. I just now looked, with no success.
I rarely watch campaign speeches or even political speeches. I once watched a good part of a Ronald Reagan State of the Union address, and I watched one of his convention speeches after he was no longer president. Until I watched Sarah Palin’s speech on YouTube the other day, I had never heard John McCain speak. (He came on at the end and said something about her wonderful family.) Never listened to Biden.
I’ve twice heard radio news clips of Obama speaking. People say he’s a wonderful orator and possibly he is. But it’s certainly not due to the quality of his voice. It’s a surprisingly thin, weak voice such that when he tries to raise so his his campaign promises can be heard, he sounds like some striving Senator Blowhard from my parents’ day. I was wondering if that sort of voice quality/mannerism was what the original Senator Foghorn had, which was why I was trying to find a sound clip with which to compare.
Anyway, there’s no shortage of things to laugh at in these campaigns. I suppose if I listened to the speeches I would find even more.
