Ok, so what is that actually a video of? Google seems to think the language in that YouTube post is Indonesian, but can’t translate it. Could be the crater from a meteor, or possibly a volcano crater (though that seems less likely given the uniform coverage of flame throughout). Maybe, it’s just the aftermath of a really big industrial explosion. I’m really curious now.
Whatever it is, as a metaphor for the feeling on Wall Street today (trying to ignore sorrowful pangs of 9/11 imagery for a moment), it is spot on.
It’s the Darvaza Gas Crater in Turkmenistan. A truly bizarre place. Not a natural crater, by the way—accidentally created when Soviet petroleum prospectors set off charges underground.

It’s a giant hole in the ground that is perpetually on fire – I think from underground natural gas – somewhere in Central Asia.
