Is Barack Obama the First Hipster President?
The Politico‘s Sam Fullwood III doesn’t actually use the word “hipster,” but he does come awfully close, saying that “Barack Hussein Obama is the nation’s first hip president.” Read and decide for yourself. This could answer my question about hipsters in D.C.
Peter, I think your use of the term “hipster” could really use some unpacking.

Luke — didn’t N+1 already do that?
I should add that I’m almost entirely kidding with this post, and at least partially kidding with most of my other hipster-related posts.

Politico joke aside, is Christian Lorentzen’s essay on Wes Anderson movies still available on the n+1 website? That was a good piece.

Actually, it’s right here:

Yeah, I got a little trigger-happy with my post there.
I think I just find it really jarring seeing the word “hipster” show up in Politico. It’s like hearing your mom talk about “bling”.

Speaking of n+1, does anyone know if keith gessen is ok after he was, um, arrested by the russians?
— Luke · Apr 27, 08:26 PM · #
Keith is OK.

He does drink PBR. That’s all the evidence I need.

He’s obviously not a hipster. The reason being he has a sense of style.
That may seem cruel to hipsters, but I’m not worried about anyone complaining since as Peter pointed out, “No hipster will ever admit to being one him or herself.”

Thanks for that, Matoko.

Matoko has provided evidence that the Dude shops at thrift stores. Pretty damning, I’d say.
