There Can Be Only One
Ain’t It Cool is reporting that Neil Moritz is planning to produce a remake of the delightfully silly 80’s swordsman movie, Highlander. I generally refuse to care about anything Moritz is involved with, but there’s one way they could grab my attention: Cast Liam Neeson in the Sean Connery role. Neeson’s shown a rare ability to take formulaic dreck and make it compelling; his presence alone would make the movie worth watching. Anyone else in that role, though, and I’ll wonder why they even bothered.
Update: Yeah, I can’t resist.
Highlander is actually pretty big in France. We had the TV show which, though formulaic, did much to expand on the central premise and create a compelling universe.
Also, that song is just AWESOME.

Some of my favorite movie physics of all time: The Kurgan destroying a Scottish castle simply by swinging his sword. Just fantastic. And the TV show was fun, at least until the last couple of years. That season where Duncan gives up violence after killing Richie struck me as somewhat lame.

The idea of casting Neeson in highlander is the most intelligent thing I have read here.

I sure hope someone will do a Momma Mia things, but with a bunch of Queen songs. If only we could find an unfulfilled playwright with a keen appreciation of music…
