"I Feel Like My Whole Life is Ridiculous, Really."
Jezebel brings us the funniest Judge Judy segment ever. (Side question: Are these people hipsters? Sub-side questions: Are they faking it? And if they are, does that make them more hipster or less?)
I feel the same with you, really.

Yes, they are hipsters in its most purest sense. The woman is a member of an artist community in Baltimore, Wham City, that has produced some popular experimental/avant-garde musicians and artists.
A core element of being a hipster today is being ironic. The resurgence of those neon ray-ban knocks offs or those big grandma glasses, mustaches or old “vintage” t-shirts the irony of it all. Hipsters embraced over the top handlebar mustaches because they were so far from fashionable. It was a way to show they didn’t care about conventional fashion; they’d start their own trends.
They have, and conventional fashion has embraced many of the elements made popular by hipsters. Stores like American Apparel and Urban Outfitters have grown rapidly in recent years pushing hipster styles. Therefore, hipsters have to distinguish themselves in more extreme ways.
This appearance probably makes them hipster idols. They went on Judge Judy, a show that hasn’t been cool or relevant since 1999, and made a farce of it.
I don’t think they’re “faking it”. I’m sure the woman is upset her cat was killed, but she’s definitely exaggerating her emotions and seizing every chance she gets to mention she’s in a band.
You have to remember that being a hipster means you have to be ridiculous- the more the better. Imagine riding the bus through the Brooklyn projects to get to your Williamsburg loft with a big handlebar mustache, tight jeans and an oversized panda sweatshirt.

I found it interesting that the cat killer was dressed like a hesher. Do social signifiers have no meaning anymore? Have hipsters appropriated the hesher look? Or was this a case of intra-group fraternization? If so, that may have been the cause of the problems. In my experience the average hesher is less concerend with the welfare of animals, in general or particular, than the average hipster. I suspect that had the hipster girl stuck to her kind, the cat would be alive today. And had the incident occured solely amoung heshers, the single dead cat would not would not be enough to trigger a law suit.

I meant to say “INTER-group” fraternization. I get inter and intra mixed up sometimes.
