I own a PS3 and this “unfinished” meme puzzles me. When DVD first came out in March, 1997, there were plenty of discs that didn’t play in every player. I owned a first-generation Phillips player that had trouble with New Line and some WB discs. Also, the first-generation players couldn’t output a DTS signal via bitstream. No one called the DVD format “unfinished” back then. Then, as now, it wasn’t so much the hardware as inconsistent disc authoring that got cleared up over time as the format grew.
I don’t know about Samsung (I’ve had mixed experiences with their products: their TVs are good but their disc players leave something to be desired) but the PS3’s firmware is regularly updated. Some people have trouble with the idea of watching movies on a game console. Fine, call it a media server/world-class DVD/CD and SACD/BD player that also plays games.
Re: BD disc prices. I pay about the same for BD as DVD at Amazon. The better picture and sound is worth a couple of dollars to me.
