Why do people even mention Biden? I mean, forget that he insulted Obama way back at the beginning of this thing. Joe “I think I have a higher IQ than you” Biden’s problem is that for all that he is a knowledgeable hand on foreign affairs, he is a dick who comes across as superior. Good in the Senate, but not anywhere else — and exactly the wrong man for someone who doesn’t want to look like a smug elitist academic. Biden is the one name out there who I think could easily sink the Obama ticket (well, OK, maybe Clinton too).
Not familiar with the insult you reference, but it’s impossible to stay on top of everything, was paying less close attention back at the beginning. I certainly think that Biden comes across as confident and aggressive at times, but I’ve never personally interpreted that as him being a dick. I mention Biden, not just because of his foreign policy cred, but because of his manner. I think his thunder is a nice compliment to Obama’s lightning, if you will. He has reams of experience, but I often don’t feel like he comes across as the perennial politician that Obama is campaigning against. Especially insofar as Biden has, at times, said things in a frank manner that you don’t often hear out of the mouth of a politician. Gruff though he may be, I don’t think he at all lends to the idea of being an elitist academic.
And part of my support for Biden is because I think he will play well beside Obama in office, apart from how he plays on the campaign trail.
tant pis
For the mil-experience Obama VP I would prefer Colin Powell anyways.
