Jason Statham's Giant Rubber Head
These behind the scenes photos from the shoot of a dream sequence in the upcoming Crank sequel are gloriously odd. I didn’t think a whole lot of the first movie — it had some spunk to it, but it was basically an ultra-violent, low-rent adaptation of Grand Theft Auto — but otherworldly strangeness like what’s shown in these photos might be enough to tempt me to a sequel.
I think “Crank” is going to have more longevity than people think – not unlike “Evil Dead”, it’s a film with a lot of heart, and I think these guys have the same work ethic as Sam Raimi. They’ve got plans to introduce a new camera technique for the third one, a more intense version of what the Wachowski’s did with the bullet cam in “The Matrix”.

You might be right, but I think that’d be a shame. The Evil Dead comparison is a good one, but the difference, I think, is that Raimi knew how to instill not just energy — which Crank certainly had — but fun. Crank never managed to be as lighthearted or delightfully absurd as any of Raimi’s low-budget gorefests. Unlike Raimi, who got the comic horror thing down cold, these guys never managed, at least in Crank, to be violent without also being gruesome.
