I’m by no means sold, but the leaked trailer for Oliver Stone’s George Bush movie, W., is pretty tantalizing. Excerpts from the script were comically bad, and Stone’s recent work has veered between dull and terrible. But if any material has the potential to inspire him to the heights of his early (and best) work, I suspect this is it.
Why should a perpetual high of righteous anger and a cocooned assurance of his own moral superiority inspire Mr. Stone to produce better work?

@sammler: Probably because the qualities you’d want in an op-ed columnist are not the qualities you’d want in the director of a feature film. I think Stone is a lunatic, but sometimes (like the late Norman Mailer) he comes up with some interesting lunacy.
