What Do They Drink at Magazines?
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports on its own demise:
The Seattle P-I’s staff has been in limbo for two months. After the closure announcement, breaking news editor Candace Heckman pulled bottles of Georgia Moon Corn Whiskey, Wild Turkey bourbon and George Dickel Tennessee Whisky out of a bag and set them out at her desk.
“I’d been saving that for a while,” she said. She’d just sent a “farewell” e-mail to the staff that said, “Come by the city desk for a drink: bring your own glass.”
Hmmm.
So if Maxim ever folds, will its editor distribute Zima to the staff?
Not nearly fratty enough. I’d guess the drink of the day would be Beam and Coke.
Of course, Maxim will never, ever fold. Mostly because God hates us and needs to see us suffer.

Hey now, they employ journalists. At full time salaries. Any organization that does that gets a lot of credit in my book.

Zima’s actually been discontinued, anyway, as of last fall.
And my captcha is apparently attempting to sell me some cedar at $5.95.

I haven’t spoke to him in years, but a friend of mine (can you still call someone you haven’t spoken to in 8 years a friend?) told me that during Maxim’s hey day, they were getting $250K/page for ad space; and back then the magazine was a thick as a friggin phone book!

Fun! Any guesses as to what gets drunk at other magazines? The Atlantic? The New Yorker? Mother Jones?
