If You Still Can't Handle a Hannity Interview...
As Sarah Palin fans rally around the Alaska governor due to the fact that David Letterman insulted her — it’s the politics of Schadenfreude — I hope they’ll also note, in case they are tempted to back her in a 2012 presidential bid, that she still doesn’t make any sense when she’s talking about policy. That ought to disqualify her from higher office regardless of whether or not she is unfairly attacked.
It’s no wonder that some committed progressives love Sarah Palin.
Hello? Dutch disease, anyone? I sort of get the feeling that most journalists weren’t econ majors.

Must a condemnation of Letterman’s extremely offensive remarks about Palin’s daughter mean that one is tempted to back her in a presidential bid? Are you tempted to agree politically with the woman whom Mark Levin insulted because he insulted her?

Kate Marie,
No, one can criticize the Letterman joke and oppose Palin seeking higher office — and that is exactly what I encourage her defenders to do.

Good thing we didn’t build that Bridge to Nowhere; think of how bad that would have been for Alaskans’ swimming proficiency.

So why do we continue to let Sarah Palin “get to us” (either in an overly favorable way or in a strongly negative one)? I like Palin but does it really matter what she says (if you don’t live in Alaska)?

I think Palin is a good barometer of how much conservative thinking and feeling has degenerated in the past 20 years. When the media was raking Dan Quayle over the coals, conservatives rallied to defend him but did it more as a reflex. They could see the media was being unfair to him, but they could also appreciate that Quayle wasn’t anything to get excited about. The virtual fetish the talk radio right has for Palin is almost adolescently stubborn in nature. They can’t be bother with the actual qualities of the woman or the reality of her political future.

It is rather amusing to watch leftists, neocons, rinos, and statists in general all flummoxed and agitated over the gracious and lovely Gov. Palin. I don’t think she’s an intellectual, but surely she is very much smarter, brighter, or sharper, at the very least in terms of common sense, than the current resident of the White House and the vast majority of political ‘leaders’ on both sides of the aisle. I wouldn’t vote for her because she appears to be a neocon. Should she see the ‘light’ I’d be pleased to cast my vote for her. I’m not biased against good lookin’ women.

I note that the Lefty you linked to admitted his error on her hannity interview. See the update. When will you? Palin is 1) running a state; 2) not rolling over to Obama fear or love; 3) driving the Left nuts; 4) running a large family and 5) looking absolutely smoking all the time.
Until some other Republican or Democrat does the same I think she comes out ok.

The “rallying” against Letterman is not because he insulted Palin, but made a very crass joke about her daughter. It’s a little disingenuous to say that the outrage is because he insulted Sarah Palin.
BTW, I just watched the thing. It seems to me that Letterman thinks the joke is really stupid. “You can see how that would be awkward,” he ad libs dryly.
