Having had the unlikely experience of police showing up at a film festival in Australia in order to prevent the screening of one of my films (as well as other less flamboyant displays of state power in AU and elsewhere), July 4th is always a welcome reminder that I am more free to do my work here in the US than anywhere else in the world.
