Georgia Rule
Over the past several years, our relationship with Mikhail Saakashvili has grown increasingly uncomfortable. Accordingly, our strategic situation in Georgia has grown increasingly untenable. I have no great love for Russian ‘spheres of interest’, little taste for expanding NATO into the Caucasus, and an appreciation of the Georgian people as meriting the sovereign state they have and the good government they don’t. Whatever you think of democracy, our democratization strategy has hit certain obstacles and one of them is Saakashvili. Since our response so far has been ineffective, I attempt to bring some provocative clarity to the options at today’s edition of The American Spectator.
