Wait for the storm of dashed hopes and irritated criticism to wash all the other guys away. A good idea? Maybe not. A workable one? Maybe. It’s true that Fred is the best federalist not named Ron. But his big problem wasn’t policy-related, it was being less entertaining, in good ways and bad, than everyone predicted. Without keeping up the on-stump mojo, the Fortress Fred scenario seems as real as the Bavarian Redoubt.
