Conversing and Music Recommendations

Hopefully you’ll watch the rest. Before my next episode I’ve got to hit him up for some lighting tips — it looks as if he’s in a room of warmth the Danes would envy.
Also, Jonah Goldberg and Matthew Continetti are arguing about Glenn Beck too. I’m siding with the latter on this one.
Finally, The Fruit Bats and their album The Ruminant Band is pretty great. As are The Dodos. If you listen to just one of their songs make it Red and Purple. It’s a gateway drug.
In the only bloghead I remember, one of hte doodz had a strat (copy?) that “just happened” to be in the background of the shot. I think there was a chessboard too.
We watch a lot of tv docs here at Casa Comstock, and one of the things I’ve noticed is that the webcam look — wide angle of view, face close to camera — is trickling up into higher-end productions. This is pretty much the exact opposite of what has traditionally been considered a flattering way to depict the human face, but new tools, new ideas, new limitations, blah blah blah.
Looks like Matt has a soft source to his left; like maybe window that sees a lot of sky but no sun. The blueness (high kelvin temp) of that light is going to make the incandescent interior background light in the hallway(?) very warm by comparison. Mixing different color temp “white” light is one of my favorite tricks; especially to fake greater exposure range than video can handle give the light more “shape”. All he needs is a strat or chessboard or both in the background!

Matt’s lighting is a lot less flat. His plainer background leaves more pixels for his face, and he has the high-back-executive-chair-of-authority thing working in his favour, not to mention the homemaker cachet of a sun filled office. Ecru lampshades will give you good flesh tones Conor and perpetual sunshine!

Apparently, judging by most of the music recomendations on this site and on matt yglesias, you young blogger dudes are ill served by your era. BUT, there is no reason you have to listen to current music. You don’t need to connect to your generation if your generation is so weak and wimpy. Forget about generation identity and just seek out good music. Go to the vital original sources instead of listning to the pale echos. I swear most of the music you guys recommend sounds like it has leukemia.

Okay, so I clicked on the Youtube link, and I don’t really know what to say. Or rather I don’t know how to say what I want to say without sounding like some “kids today” old fart. This music seems utterly nonfalsifiable, and I just don’t know what to do with that.
I do like that Fifteen song. Started hearing it last Winter, and when I got home I found out Taylor Swift is the only thing my daughter has on her iPod. If having kids doesn’t make you a sentimental fool, there’s something wrong with you.
